Another Month of Mofo

Mofo Recipes Collage

The short answer is: Peanut Butter & Jelly

The long answer is (for those of you with the time):

This MoFo journey began back in April 2013 (April 2nd, to be exact) with an article on Buzzfeed celebrating Peanut Butter & Jelly Day entitled, 29 Ways to Honor the Glory of Peanut Butter and Jelly. At the time I saw this article I thought that I’d probably try to veganize some of the recipes, bookmarked it for later scrutiny, and left it at that. MoFo wasn’t even on my radar and in fact, I’d decided not to participate this year because last year it kicked my ass right into November’s Virtual Vegan Potluck.  But after my conversation with a friend and a solid 8 hours of shut-eye, this article seemed like the perfect inspiration for Vegan MoFo 2013. Is there anyone who loves the salty-sweet combination of peanut butter and jelly more than I (probably, but they’re not writing this blog, are they)?

Here’s how it’s going to play out: I’ve used the recipes in 29 Ways as inspiration for 20 of my own PB&J creations. In many cases I looked at nothing but the title; in others, I used the non-vegan recipes as jumping-off points for my own versions.  In each post I will include links to the original recipe/blog as well as to Buzzfeed’s April 2013 article.

So, dear readers, beginning tomorrow, I present to you a full 20 recipes – mostly sweet but also some savory; some classic and some quite odd (though all delicious, I promise) – involving that kid-revered dynamic duo of food. Stay tuned for two cookbook reviews + giveaways as well.  Oh, and by the way, I’m writing this post on April 29.

ATTENTION:  If you have a peanut allergy, live outside of the U.S. (and therefore probably weren’t suckled on peanut butter), or just have no love for the rich, creamy, salty nectar, you can go about your merry way and ignore my blog for the next month.  (Or, you can substitute your favorite nut butter for the peanut butter…)

Love pb but I don’t think I’ve every had a pb + j sandwich despite how amazing it sounds! I’m in the UK so I guess it wasn’t a big thing when I was growing up.
Can’t wait to see all your creations 🙂

What a wonderful theme! I was born in Sweden and lived there until I was 8 years old. I remember first moving to the States and being introduced to PB&J, what a weird combo I thought. I personally love PB and strawberry jam on toast best. While PB is great, I have found that I love almond and cashew butter even more. Can’t wait to see all your creations! I am also super impressed that you have all your recipes done (and a bit jealous!)

I would take your pb and jelly desserts to a desert island or is there a dessert island too? Great mouthwatering theme, Ann!

Jam is what made me first tolerate, then love, peanut butter! And I didn’t even try to do that until I turned vegan. It’s been a long but worthwhile journey, and I look forward to seeing what you’ve come up with!

It’s still strange for me to think of peanut butter as a sweet thing, having been brought up with it as a savoury, usually as an alternative to cheese in a sandwich. I’m intrigued by your photographs, particularly the yellow and brown delicacy second from the top left.

I can’t wait to see your savory dishes as well as a good dose of PB & J. It’s a staple for me now. A spoonful at 2pm, another around 5 before dinner to quiet down my tummy…love it.
Lets see if you have a Thai peanut butter and jelly post coming? Now that would be awesome 🙂 I think?

Great theme! I can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with. I’ve never really liked PB&J but I’ve recently discovered a love for almond butter & jam!

That’s a Theme with a big T! I have to admit *hinding behind rocks* I’ve never really understood this combination all Americans seem to adore, so here’s a perfect chance for even me to find out what’s the fuss about and actually try out some of your recipes.
