The short answer is: Peanut Butter & Jelly
The long answer is (for those of you with the time):
This MoFo journey began back in April 2013 (April 2nd, to be exact) with an article on Buzzfeed celebrating Peanut Butter & Jelly Day entitled, 29 Ways to Honor the Glory of Peanut Butter and Jelly. At the time I saw this article I thought that I’d probably try to veganize some of the recipes, bookmarked it for later scrutiny, and left it at that. MoFo wasn’t even on my radar and in fact, I’d decided not to participate this year because last year it kicked my ass right into November’s Virtual Vegan Potluck. But after my conversation with a friend and a solid 8 hours of shut-eye, this article seemed like the perfect inspiration for Vegan MoFo 2013. Is there anyone who loves the salty-sweet combination of peanut butter and jelly more than I (probably, but they’re not writing this blog, are they)?
Here’s how it’s going to play out: I’ve used the recipes in 29 Ways as inspiration for 20 of my own PB&J creations. In many cases I looked at nothing but the title; in others, I used the non-vegan recipes as jumping-off points for my own versions. In each post I will include links to the original recipe/blog as well as to Buzzfeed’s April 2013 article.
So, dear readers, beginning tomorrow, I present to you a full 20 recipes – mostly sweet but also some savory; some classic and some quite odd (though all delicious, I promise) – involving that kid-revered dynamic duo of food. Stay tuned for two cookbook reviews + giveaways as well. Oh, and by the way, I’m writing this post on April 29.
ATTENTION: If you have a peanut allergy, live outside of the U.S. (and therefore probably weren’t suckled on peanut butter), or just have no love for the rich, creamy, salty nectar, you can go about your merry way and ignore my blog for the next month. (Or, you can substitute your favorite nut butter for the peanut butter…)

Love pb but I don’t think I’ve every had a pb + j sandwich despite how amazing it sounds! I’m in the UK so I guess it wasn’t a big thing when I was growing up.
Can’t wait to see all your creations 🙂
Definitely an American thing. Can’t imagine my childhood without that combination!
I am so inspired by your delicious pb & j love my friend, looking forward to it 😀
Cheers
CCU
Some might call it an obsession ;-). Thanks, CCU!
Ooh how fun! I love a good PB&J twist and can’t wait to see your recipes!
I’ve had a lot of fun with this theme – – and a few disasters ;-)!
I am so impressed that you have all of your recipes together already!
I am so excited to see your posts! Great concept.
Thanks, Sarina. I’ve been enjoying this theme!
What a wonderful theme! I was born in Sweden and lived there until I was 8 years old. I remember first moving to the States and being introduced to PB&J, what a weird combo I thought. I personally love PB and strawberry jam on toast best. While PB is great, I have found that I love almond and cashew butter even more. Can’t wait to see all your creations! I am also super impressed that you have all your recipes done (and a bit jealous!)
I love both almond and cashew butter – with almond butter ALMOST beating out peanut butter. I really had to step it up the last week or so to get all my posts done. Now I can relax…:-)
I am so excited for this! I cannot wait to see what you create!
🙂 There’s some good stuff coming – with all humility I say this.
I would take your pb and jelly desserts to a desert island or is there a dessert island too? Great mouthwatering theme, Ann!
MMMmmmm, Dessert Island….
Jam is what made me first tolerate, then love, peanut butter! And I didn’t even try to do that until I turned vegan. It’s been a long but worthwhile journey, and I look forward to seeing what you’ve come up with!
So jam was your “gateway” drug to peanut butter ;-)! Interesting! Thank you so much for visiting and I hope you like my MoFo offerings!
It’s still strange for me to think of peanut butter as a sweet thing, having been brought up with it as a savoury, usually as an alternative to cheese in a sandwich. I’m intrigued by your photographs, particularly the yellow and brown delicacy second from the top left.
Ahhh, you have a good eye, my friend.
I love this theme! I can’t wait to see more! 🙂
It’s crazy what you can do with pb & j ;-)!
Wow this is going to be a very very fun and interesting theme, Annie. Can’t wait to drool over your many avatars of PB&J. 🙂
😛 I had a lot of fun with it, Susmitha – and amazingly, I still love peanut butter! Looking forward to your theme rolling out, too!
Happy Vegan MoFo. I know your homage to the classic PB&J is gonna be bomb! 🙂 Looking forward seeing your posts!
Happy Vegan MoFo to you, too! I’m exhausted already!
I can’t wait to see your savory dishes as well as a good dose of PB & J. It’s a staple for me now. A spoonful at 2pm, another around 5 before dinner to quiet down my tummy…love it.
Lets see if you have a Thai peanut butter and jelly post coming? Now that would be awesome 🙂 I think?
LOVE this theme!
:-). Thank you!
I can’t remember the last time I had a PB&J but you have inspired me! 🙂
Be careful! Once you have one, you might find you need a PB&J every day ;-)!
happy mofo to you too! i am waiting to see some savory creations too!
Great theme! I can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with. I’ve never really liked PB&J but I’ve recently discovered a love for almond butter & jam!
Almond butter is a very, very close second!

That’s a Theme with a big T! I have to admit *hinding behind rocks* I’ve never really understood this combination all Americans seem to adore, so here’s a perfect chance for even me to find out what’s the fuss about and actually try out some of your recipes.
Something about the sweet jam and the salty nut butter…heaven! But I understand that peanut butter is, for some, an acquired taste.
hehe, I love it!! I made a PB&J smoothie the other day that made me fall in love with this combo all over again, so I can’t wait to see your creations! xx
Yum! That sounds fantastic!
Wow talk about epic themes 😉 So excited for this!
Having tons of fun with this one!
Best theme ever!
:-p Thanks, Sarah!
